If you’re like me, you’re always on the lookout for natural remedies that not only promise to improve your health but also stand the test of time and science. Activated charcoal is one of those. Taking activated charcoal can potentially help reduce cholesterol levels, assist in cases of poisoning, and support kidney function, among other benefits. 

Now, onto my personal discovery of this “magical” black powder. It all started within the walls of my childhood home. In my family, activated charcoal was a tradition. Whenever someone had a tummy ache, a glass of water with a spoonful of this black powder would magically appear. I remember watching it dissolve, turning the water a deep, inky black, and being fascinated. 

This fascination grew as I did. How could something so simple be so effective? Fun fact: The surface area of activated charcoal is so immense, to put it in perspective, just a teaspoon of the stuff can have a surface area of more than 10,000 square feet. That’s like an entire football field!
